It's false, or at the least, misleading.

So's the Snopes article--I kept waiting for them to prove the test didn't really exist in 1895; instead they focused on dispoving that we're all dumber than people were back then.

Snopes is the work of the devil.

Read the article title - whether or not the test existed was never considered:

Claim: An 1895 graduation examination for public school students *demonstrates a shocking decline in educational standards.*
Status: False.

Whether or not it is a real test is immaterial to the point the author of the e-mail is trying to make.

Unfortunately, you are dumber than they were in 1895 since you neglected to learn to read and are unable to understand the format of Snopes articles.

sure we could. we just aren't taught some of this stuff anymore, and if we were given all of the information in one day, i'm sure we could ace the test the next day. big deal. it is neat, however, if it's real. it shows a real difference pertaining to what was valued back then as opposed to now.

Just because you don't know what a bushel is doesn't make you stupid. The idiots that took that test didn't know what a meter was. Dumbasses. Nor, aparently, did they know a thing about Chemistry or Biology. Or Advanced Algebra.

I'll admit to probably not being as smart as some people on here, but when I was in the 8th grade I knew nothing about biology, chemistry, or advanced algebra

Last year I took a Master's level English course, and a woman in the class was an 8th grade teacher. We showed her this and her mind was thoroughly boggled.

Re: Some of my answers

Not only that, the questions almost all refer to Agrarian society/Agricultural economy, the whole world has changed so much since then that it's an apples and oranges comparison.

Since this test originated in Kansas...

...you should also note there are no references to evolution.
