I'm still getting the hang of Wordpress and I'm not sure how it'll work in all areas, but I like this layout and having a registration system and such. Comments?

*shrug* It looks just fine. I guess I'm in the boat that believes "If it ain't broken..." I don't really see the need to move away from Live Journal.

Guess it could be worse. You could move to MySpace.

So does that mean the old rspwfaq (version 2) is gone? Man, I thought that place was making a comeback? Wallie D obviously couldn't juggle that, and a thousand of other things all at once...

Isn't Wordpress that system that crippled TheWrestlingBlog from a pretty cool place to talk about wrestling to a commentless suckhole that's always malfunctioning?

I'd hate to see that happen to whatever this blog becomes. I love discussing wrestling with the people here, since the opinions are more insightful and valid than at a lot of other wrestling boards (*cough*Wrestlecrap*cough*).

Good to see you've finally got a proper webspace again instead of diddling around on Livejournal.

It could of course use a bit more polish, but the basic layout seems good to me.

So the tape of the day yesterday was a comp tape of tag matches from 92-93. All but one WCW with some great Blondes, Steiners, Doc/Gordy, Anderson/Eaton, Steamboat/Douglas matches, and 2 kickass 6 man matches, one Sting/Steiners v Rude/Anderson/Eaton and Flair/Anderson/Roma v Pillman/Austin/Windham (Roma spent about 2 minutes in the ring). The last match was one we talked about on here recently, the cage match between Steiners/Money Inc from Summer Slam spectacular. This was an easy ****, maybe ****1/2 for the ending and Bill Alphonso being the ref, definitely a gimmick they need to bring back (both men hitting the floor) if they ever use good tag teams again.

Tell me you didn't award a half star for a ref. :)

1992 WCW was ridiculous. Last night I was watching some Nitros from late 1995, and holy SHIT did they pack a lot into one hour. Seriously, four lengthy matches, three full promos, and announcer bickering. That's a pretty good tally for a RAW nowadays.

That was NOTHING, though, compared to WCWSN. I just watched a fucking 40 minute AIRTIME Steamboat-Flair match from 1994 SN. Free TV, unbelievably good of coures.

Last night I watched tapes of the MOTY's from 81-84. The Backlund - Pattera No Holds Bared match was fun for what it was, but with the 82 Slaughter/Patterson NHB match after it made it pale in comparision. Slaughter was SO great in that match, I forgot how great he was in the early 80's. What an intense great brawl.

Tiger Mask vs Dynamite was obviously insanly good, and hold up today where it would steal any pay-per-view in North America. Of course half the goons in the IWC would whine because it was too chinlocky.

Race vs Flair in the cage for Starcade 83 holds up the worst, and is overrated in my opinion. Of course 84 wasn't a great year and I can't thikn of anything that jumps out from that year as being clearly better... 2006 is like 84... a bad year for match quality.

This weekend I watched GAB - Glory Days - what a great Steiners vs Sullivan and Rotunda tag match. I thought it was the best match on the show, better than even Funk vs Flair. A forgotten classic.

That Ricky Steamboat/Lex Luger match, to me, was the true forgotten classic, as everything loves Flair/Funk, Sting/Muta, and the Wargames match, but that match was the perfect personification of power wrestler versus agile wrestler. Steamboat was on a roll in '89, man! The Steiners beating down the Varsity Club was a crazy brawl that wound up all over the stage, so that alone makes it memorable because matches like that weren't done often at that time. It also spawned the inspiration for Sullivan to book himself with guys like Foley and Benoit who actually knew how to wrestle to have phenomenal garbage matches.

WWE indirectly changes the format of ANOTHER channel
[info]wantedbadass
2006-08-24 02:42 pm UTC (link)
The Sci-Fi channel is changing it's name to SurgeTV to reflect the new "extreme" audience it's getting and to move away from the "nerd" demographic. Seems like WWE is going to be a mainstay on the network, despite no deal past September being reported, as they mention that they want to bring ECW to primetime 3 nights a week (I'm guessing re-runs of the show?) and they want to provide new WWE content apart from that (maybe Heat/Velocity or some type of recap show?).

Either way, this reeks of TNN -> The New TNN -> SpikeTV. Instead of changing it to a "channel for men" they're going to be pushing "Xtreme Surge at Night" (ironically called a new "brand" in the article).

Anybody here follow OVW at all? I just moved to Louisville and checked out the OVW tapings last night at Davis Arena, and other than a limited few, the OVW guys aren't that great.

Granted, its a developmental territory, but considering some of the guys to come out of OVW and other Development territories, or even indies, the current batch of guys (outside of Punk, Skyfire, Evans) doesn't really look to be many guys that I could ever see making it in the E.

Any thoughts?

I used to go every week until people there started being the redneck hicks they truly are. And thus causing the show to not be fun for me anymore.

That being said, it was always hit or miss. Some weeks you'd be really glad you went. Because maybe someone would show up in a dark match, like Stevie Richards, or Gangrel, or it just be a HOT show. And other weeks you'd go and it would just be boring.

To this day I'm glad I was there when Danny Basham, and Doug had their "Loser Leaves OVW" match. Because it was one of the best matches I've ever seen live. And the show the put on right after Jim Cornette got suspended was awesome to cause it was pure Chaos. Shit like that is few and far between though.

I find during the summer is a good time to stay away too, because they book too much for the Six Flag's shows so you get all the build-up but never the match. Unless of course you waste the 50 bucks on a Season Pass to Six Flags.

I'd give it another chance if I were you but at the same time, it's almost just worth waiting for Saturday Nights and watching it on TV.
