This is probably the 50th similar e-mail you'll get on
this subject today, Mr. Keith, but just in case no one
else is reading Meltzer... you'll probably get a kick
out of www.helprickymorton.org.   Apparently he's in
the clink in Murfreesboro, TN, for failing to pay
$74,000+ worth of back child support.  These fans are
trying to spring him via memorabilia auctions.

I imagine this is worthwhile blog fodder, anyways.  Enchoy."

You know, maybe if he had saved some money in the 80s by cutting back on hair-care products, he would have saved a few hundred thousand just in case of an emergency like this.

Seriously - fuck Ricky Morton. Like hell I'd ever given him one cent to take care of the debt he should have fucking paid in the first place.

Wow, I'm about an hour away from the slammer he's in. I wouldn't contribute to some guy who wouldn't help is children out. I don't care if it's Ricky Morton or Hulk Hogan. Ricky Morton a deadbeat. Doesn't surprise me.

Because everything is always so black and white, huh?

"They note Morton is the single parent of a four year old son, and he got so far behind on child support because at the time of the divorce, he was under contract to WCW and making big money, that obviously he hasn't made in more than a decade."

In most jurisdictions, if you are paying child support based on what your level of income was when the court order was made, and if your income drops thereafter, you can go back to court and ask that payments be set at a lower amount, and/or or that payments be postponed or stopped altogether, if you're really in hard shape, and/or that back payments be waived, and/or that a repayment schedule be set up, and/or ... well, you get the idea.

Point is, unless the laws of Morton's state are *really* different from just about anywhere else in North America, there were all sorts of things he could've done over the last decade or so if he couldn't afford his child support.

If - IF - he tried to do one or more of those things and the Court refused to go along, that's one thing. If he just put off and/or ignored the matter till they showed up with handcuffs - then to hell with him.

We don't know the whole story though. I had a friend who was ordered to pay MORE money than he was making. The judge told him he would have to go get a better job.

For some reason, I read that as Ricky Martin until I clicked the link. Silly me.

I hear "playing Ricky Morton" has a completely different context in prison than it does in Scott's reviews.

Indeed. It seemed like such an obvious joke that I was surprised noone had already mentioned it, even this early. And while it pained me to be the one to make the obvious joke, it pained me even more to leave it unaddressed.

A nice alternative to the joke would have been, "Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "playing Rick Morton" doesn't it?"

Morton's gotten into something that Robert Gibson can't bail him out of. I didn't think that was possible.

Ricky needs to give the hot tag to a bail bondsman.

Hm, I guess I was the only one who e-mailed you with that story. Who knew so few people gave two craps about Ricky Morton ("YOUR deadbeat dad-in-peril...") anymore?

How about Cornette bail him out with his momma's money and force Ricky to work for him?

I'm all for the fundraisers for wrestlers with medical problems but to bail a deadbeat dad out of jail? Wasn't he at all those legend conventions that have been going on? I know they aren't getting 50,000 to be at them but it seems if he would given a little more of that to his family and a little less on scarves he would not be in the problem.

Also why couldn't he just fall back on his guitar playing career?
I doubt I can top a Learning the Ropes refrence so I'll stop there.

The sad thing for the kid is that his deadbeat dad already has him in a mullet.
